Pieter Brokking, aged 20, is a young Dutch pianist for whom music has always been a natural language. Raised in a deeply musical family, he was surrounded by classical music from an early age. One of his earliest memories is of being unable to stand still as a three-year-old while his father played a Bach fugue on the organ; music has always been present in his life.
At the age of eight, Pieter began piano lessons with José Kerremans, after receiving his first musical foundation from his father on the organ. A few years later, he continued his studies with Frits Kroese and also spent a year studying with Henry Kelder, professor of piano in Utrecht. He is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague under the guidance of Ellen Corver.
Pieter is a prizewinner of several competitions. In 2025, he was awarded first prize at the Spotlight Competition, and in 2024 he became a laureate of the Young Talent Competition Maassluis. In the past year, he also made his debut with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, marking an important milestone in his young career.
What drives Pieter in music is the ability to express emotions in a direct and honest way. For him, music is not only a personal necessity, but above all a way to move and engage others. His playing is characterised by deep involvement and sincerity; whether in the practice room or on stage, he approaches each piece with his whole heart.
This deeply personal connection to music gives his playing a sense of clarity, authenticity, and communication. With his open musicality and sensitivity to expression, Pieter Brokking creates a natural connection between composer, performer, and audience.
