A UNIQUE CLASSICAL FAMILY CONCERT!
On Friday 28 August, three young musicians from one family will give a special concert in the atmospheric concert hall of Kasteel de Vanenburg. An organ and a grand piano on the same stage, with the warm sound of the horn between them.
The programme ranges from the German baroque to the twentieth century: Buxtehude and Bach, Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, Danzi's horn sonata, a Chopin nocturne, and, as the closing piece, the Toccata and Fugue by Micheelsen. More than four centuries of music, shared by the Brokking siblings. It promises to be a wonderful evening!

Thirsa Brokking, organ
Thirsa Brokking, organ
Thirsa is a young Dutch organist who recently completed her bachelor's degree in organ at the Utrecht Conservatory. Music has played a major role throughout her life: her father taught her the first principles of organ playing and inspired her with the remarkable sounds he was able to draw from the instrument.
During her studies she worked with, among others, Evert van de Veen, Rien Donkersloot, Reitze Smits and Laurens de Man. The vision and musicality of Reitze Smits in particular have strongly shaped her playing. For Thirsa, music is "the most beautiful language, one that connects people to one another." When preparing new works, she likes to immerse herself in the history behind the music and the composer.
Alongside her teaching practice, in which she guides young musicians, Thirsa enjoys playing together with other musicians. That eye for detail and her love of music characterise her way of making music.
Pieter Brokking, piano
Pieter Brokking (19) is a young Dutch pianist for whom music has been a natural language from an early age. He began piano lessons at the age of eight with José Kerremans, after his father had given him his first grounding on the organ. A few years later he continued his piano studies with Frits Kroese, and also spent a year studying with Henry Kelder, principal piano teacher in Utrecht. He currently studies piano at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where his teacher is Ellen Corver.
Pieter has won prizes at a number of competitions. In 2025 he took first prize at the Spotlight Competition, and in 2024 he was a laureate of the Jong Talentenconcours in Maassluis. This past year he also made his debut with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, an important milestone in his young career.
What drives Pieter in music is the chance to express feelings and emotions in a direct and honest way. For him, music is not only a personal necessity but above all a way to move and delight others. His playing is marked by deep commitment and sincerity: every piece, whether he is in a practice room or on stage, he plays with his heart. That intensely personal relationship with music makes his playing distinctive, pure and communicative, and creates a natural connection between composer, performer and audience.
Jan-Jaap Brokking, horn
At sixteen, Jan-Jaap is the youngest of the family. His love for the horn began early: from the age of seven to fifteen he studied with Klaske de Haan at Scholen in de Kunst in Amersfoort, where he was part of the excellence programme preparing students for a conservatoire education.
At fifteen he was advised to continue his training at the JongConservatorium in The Hague, a secondary school with a particular focus on the musical development of its pupils. There he studies horn with principal teacher Hanna Guirten. At the Maassluis Music Week, Jan-Jaap twice won a second prize.
Jan-Jaap's playing breathes a deep emotionality. He enjoys the many styles the musical tradition has to offer, with a special place in his heart for the Romantic era.
